At Leppington Public School, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to feel confident, included and successful at school. Our support processes are built on strong partnerships between families, teachers, support staff and students, with a focus on understanding each child’s individual strengths, needs and goals.

Whole School Approach

Leppington Public School supports students through a whole-school approach to learning, wellbeing and inclusion. The graphic below shows the different layers of support available — from quality classroom teaching for all students, through to personalised adjustments, Learning and Support Team involvement and targeted intervention programs. The process is built on collaboration among families, teachers, support staff, and external agencies, with ongoing monitoring and review to ensure that support is responsive to each child’s needs and progress.

Support begins with quality classroom teaching, where teachers use data-informed practice, explicit teaching and differentiated learning to meet the needs of all students. When additional support is needed, staff work closely with families to plan personalised adjustments, interventions and strategies that help students access learning and wellbeing support.

Personalised Support

Support plans and adjustments are regularly reviewed through ongoing monitoring, assessment and collaboration with families to ensure support continues to meet each student’s needs.

We know a student may need additional support when teachers notice changes in learning, behaviour or wellbeing, when assessment data highlights concerns, or when families raise questions or request support. If you feel your child may benefit from additional support, we encourage you to contact the school so we can work together to help your child thrive.

Learning & Support Team

Our Learning and Support Team works closely with families, teachers and support staff to ensure every student receives the right support at the right time. The team helps identify student needs, plan personalised adjustments and interventions, monitor progress and connect families with additional services when needed. Our team may include learning and support teachers, school learning support officers, school counsellors and psychologists, student support officers, itinerant teachers, EAL/D teachers, Aboriginal education officers and community liaison staff, all working together to support student learning, wellbeing and inclusion.

Targeted Intervention or Support

In collaboration among teachers, families, support staff, and specialist teams, the school can provide targeted literacy and numeracy intervention programs that draw on expertise within the school and the Department’s Team Around the School. This can include:

Access Requests

Where additional or specialised support may be needed, the school works closely with families to consider an Access Request through the local school network. This is a thorough process that gathers detailed information about a student’s learning, wellbeing and support needs to determine whether additional resources, funding support or a specialist class placement may be appropriate. Families are supported throughout the process, with collaboration and student needs remaining at the centre of all decisions.
