Our Whole-School Wellbeing Approach
Leppington Public School promotes a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture through proactive wellbeing practices, explicit behaviour expectations, restorative approaches, social emotional learning and strong partnerships with families and the wider community. Our wellbeing systems are designed to support students across prevention, early intervention and targeted support to ensure every student feels safe, connected and supported to succeed.
Positive School Culture
We foster a safe, respectful and connected learning environment through whole-school behaviour expectations, positive behaviour support systems, restorative conversations and relationship-building practices. Students are supported through explicit playground expectation lessons, leadership opportunities and whole-school celebrations including Harmony Day, NAIDOC Week and Anti-Bullying initiatives that promote inclusion, belonging and respect.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
Social and emotional learning is explicitly taught across the school to support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, empathy, self-awareness and positive relationships. Programs and practices include Zones of Regulation, emotional literacy, friendship and conflict resolution lessons, self-regulation strategies, help-seeking skills, and cyber safety and digital citizenship education.
Attendance and Engagement
Regular attendance is essential for student learning, wellbeing and connection to school. Leppington Public School supports attendance and engagement through Breakfast Club, attendance celebrations and awards, transition to school programs, attendance support planning and individualised support for students and families experiencing barriers to attendance.
Breakfast Club
Leppington Public School proudly runs a Breakfast Club every Wednesday and Friday morning from 8:30am – 8:55am. Breakfast Club provides students with a safe, welcoming and supportive start to the school day where they can connect with peers and staff before learning begins.
The program is open to all students and supports student wellbeing, attendance, engagement and readiness for learning by ensuring students have access to breakfast in a positive and inclusive environment.
Breakfast Club is made possible through the generous support of our local community, charities and partnership organisations, including donations of food and essential supplies. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support that helps us continue providing this important service for our students and families.
Family and Community Partnerships
We value strong partnerships with families and the wider community in supporting student wellbeing and success. Community wellbeing initiatives may include Parent Cafés, coffee mornings, parenting workshops, multicultural celebrations, Community SLSO and community support, Foodbank partnerships, family support programs and strong transition partnerships that help students and families feel connected and supported within the school community.
Community Liaison and Family Support
At Leppington Public School, we value strong partnerships between school, home and the wider community. Our Community School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) supports students and families by strengthening connections with the school and helping remove barriers that may impact student wellbeing, engagement and attendance.
Our community support programs include:
- Breakfast Club
- emergency food and family hamper support programs
- uniform assistance programs
- connecting external organisations with families for practical support services when needed.
