Preschool hours and classes

Our preschool will operate the same days and hours as our whole school, and will be closed during school holidays and public holidays.

Fee-free preschool

Our public preschool will be free to attend. Start Strong funding is not used to subsidise fees at public preschools and may still be accessed by families at other early childhood education and care services.

Enrolment information

Expressions of interest (EOIs) to enrol at Leppington Public Preschool are not yet open. We will keep our school community informed and provide further information once EOIs open.

Public preschools enrol children for one year only, in the year before they start school. Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn 4 years of age before 31 July that year.

Unlike NSW public schools, there are no enrolment boundaries for public preschools. Children do not need to live in our school’s local enrolment intake area (catchment area) to apply. If the number of applications exceeds the number of available places, enrolments will be prioritised in accordance with the Public Preschool Enrolment Procedure.

Learning in our preschool

Our preschool will be an approved early learning service and operate under the National Quality Framework.

We will provide a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment where children feel supported to learn, grow and thrive.

Our child to staff ratio will be 10:1 and every class will be staffed with a university-trained early childhood teacher (ECT) and a trained School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) to ensure the high-quality delivery of early learning education.

Our learning program will offer age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences guided by the Early Years Learning Framework.

Our preschool follows a range of policies and procedures to ensure children receive high quality education and care in a safe and inclusive environment.

Our preschool program

Our preschool program is designed to:

• provide quality, play-based learning programs for 5 days a fortnight in the year before Kindergarten
• support children’s learning, development and wellbeing
• strengthen children’s confidence and independence as learners
• extend and enrich each child’s early learning journey
• ensure a smooth and successful transition to primary school

Public preschools deliver 600 hours of free, play-based education guided by the Early Years Learning Framework.

Part of the Statewide 100 Public Preschool Program

Leppington Public Preschool is one of the 100 new public preschools being built across NSW by 2027.

This initiative will:

• double the number of public preschools across NSW
• allow up to 9,000 additional children to access fee-free, high-quality preschool
• support stronger transitions from early childhood education into primary school
• improve long-term academic, social and wellbeing outcomes for children
• provide modern, purpose-built early learning environments connected directly to public schools

The first of the 100 preschools opened at Gulyangarri Public School in Term 4, 2024, giving local families greater access to quality early childhood education. We are excited to bring the same opportunity to the Leppington community.

Preschool operating information

Our preschool will operate:

• Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm

• Closed during school holidays and public holidays

• Each preschool class will enrol up to 20 children per day

• Classes will operate with a 10:1 child-to-staff ratio

• Every class will have:

  • a university-trained Early Childhood Teacher, and
  • a suitably trained School Learning Support Officer (SLSO)

This ensures safe, caring and engaging learning environments for all children.
